What to Bring
A Yoga Mat
If you have one. If not you can rent one at the studio for a dollar, or buy one. We carry Manduka yoga mats that have a lifetime warranty.
A Big Towel
Like a bath towel or a beach towel. You put it on your mat to sweat on so you don’t slip. We rent towels for $2, and we also sell towels designed to cover yoga mats.
Bring a full water bottle. You can buy water at the studio if you need to. Try to be well hydrated when you show up.
How to Prepare
You want to be well hydrated when the class starts. You’re going to be sweating, so if you start the class already dehydrated you won’t be able to catch up.
Don't Eat Right Before Class
You want to avoid eating anything heavy for a couple hours before class. You’ll be holding yoga poses while lying on your stomach for a portion of the class.
But Don't Starve Yourself Either
Unless you are taking a class right after waking up in the morning, you need to make sure you eat well during the day to give your body the energy it needs to make it through class.
What to Expect
It Will be Hot
Holding yoga poses in a heated room is challenging, especially in the beginning. You’ll be encouraged to sit down and take breaks as you need to. After a few classes your body will get used to the heat and things become much more comfortable.
You Will Sweat
You should wear clothes that you’d be comfortable wearing to exercise outside on a hot summer day. Don’t worry about this too much for your first class, just don’t show up wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt and you’ll be fine.
You Will Feel Great Afterwards
The great thing about this yoga series is that you will get tremendous benefits from the poses no matter how deep you can go or how much you can do. Even if you don’t think you’ve done much, your body will benefit from the class on many levels.
You Will be Humbled
Don’t be surprised if this class kicks your butt, no matter how physically fit you are. The combination of the heat and this specific sequence of postures makes for a humbling physical workout. Then you’ll glance over at the woman in her sixties next to you who isn’t even breathing hard…
You Will be Challenged
Unless you grew up doing high level dance or gymnastics you’re going to find some real challenges in flexibility and mobility. You’ll also find muscles that you weren’t even aware you had getting very tired. Yoga isn’t just stretching. We build strength, balance, and flexibility while working to regain and maintain natural ranges of mobility – and that’s just what’s happening on the surface.
You Will be Welcomed
Our teachers and students love this yoga and they love it when new people come to try it. In fact, they’re always dragging their friends and family in to class to show them how great it is! We feel like the world would be a better place if everyone could enjoy the peace, calm, and health that comes with a regular yoga practice, so our entire community is always welcoming of new students.
Bikram Yoga Maple Shade
We are located at 300 S Lenola Rd in Maple Shade, NJ. Our studio is in the Kingsway Shopping Center at the intersection of Rt. 41 Kings Hwy and Lenola Rd. The shopping center has a large Acme grocery store and Yokohama Sushi and Hibachi. We’re across the street from BJ’s and about a half mile north of the Moorestown Mall.
